12/15/02 - INTERNATIONAL CRIME ALERT: IZZ-AL-DIN - 2002-12-17


The United States has established a list of “Most Wanted Terrorists.” Several of the fugitives on this list, including Osama bin Laden, are part of al-Qaida, the terrorist group responsible for the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Others are wanted in connection with previous terrorist attacks.

Hasan Izz-Al-Din [HAH-sahn IZ-zad-DEEN] is wanted for planning and participating in the 1985 hijacking of a Trans World Airlines jet bound for Rome from Athens with mostly American passengers. In the course of this air piracy, passengers and crew members were assaulted and one U.S. citizen was murdered.

Izz-Al-Din was born in 1963 in Lebanon. He is about one-meter eighty centimeters tall. He weighs about sixty-six kilograms, and he has a slender build. He has black hair and black eyes.

Hasan Izz-Al-Din is reported to be a member of the terrorist organization Lebanese Hezbollah. This group has been involved in numerous terrorist attacks against the U.S., Israel, and other countries. It is supported by Iran and Syria. Izz-Al-Din is believed to be in Lebanon. He uses the aliases Ahmed Garbaya [AH-med gar-BYE-ya], Samir Salwwan [sah-MEER sahl-oo’WAHN], and Said [sah-EED].

The U.S. is offering a reward of up to twenty-five-million dollars for information leading to the arrest of Hasan Izz-Al-Din. If you have information concerning this fugitive, you should contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. The identities of all informants will be kept confidential.
