Stray Dogs

Africans and their dogs wait in line for free rabies vaccinations.

Stray dogs that are lost or separated from their owners can look helpless, but they can also be dangerous and carry bad diseases.

Stray Dogs

One such disease – rabies – is a serious threat in Africa, where it kills more people than in any other part of the world. The greatest risk is to children -- young boys in particular -- who approach the animals to play, and then get bitten. To protect your family eliminate anything that attracts stray animals to your area. Store food so it has no scent to attract dogs. Bury or burn trash. And don’t keep water in open bowls or containers. All these things can protect you and your children from the threat of disease caused by bites from stray dogs.
