President Donald Trump announced the launch of what he called an Economic D-Day against Iran - “the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country.”
“No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a Deal than me,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “TRAGICALLY, for them, they have failed to take it.”
“Therefore ... I am announcing the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY!” announced the President. “This will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale.”
President Trump noted that Iran has already been greatly weakened through the U.S. military’s Operation Epic Fury. Their “navy is gone, their air force is destroyed, their military factories are now rubble, their currency is worthless, and their country is hanging by a thread.”
He added “that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.” In particular, he called for “oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies ... to stop NOW.”
“You know who you are,” said President Trump. “We need all of our Allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat.”
The President’s announcement came days after the United Arab Emirates — a key commercial partner for Iran — suspended all trade and financial dealings with the Islamic Republic, following what it said were two Iranian ballistic missiles fired at the Gulf state. Before the war, the UAE was Iran’s largest source of imports, supplying more than 30 percent of the country’s total imports in 2024, according to the World Trade Organization.
The Economic D-Day announcement follows the expiration of an unsuccessful 60-day period for negotiations to end the war, established under an interim peace deal signed in June.
President Trump has indicated that no further talks with the regime are planned, and the U.S. Naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz “remains in full force and effect.”
“These [Iranian regime] maniacs are on the ropes, and these HISTORIC MEASURES will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide,” declared President Trump. “IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.”
