View From Washington: Russia and Assad

President Obama said it is bad news that Russia believes Bashar al Assad is worthy of support. Assad has alienated so much of the Syrian population that it will not be possible to arrive at a peaceful cease-fire and political settlement, and the vacuum being filled by extremists will continue.
