August 29th marked 2,000 days since U.S. citizen Robert Levinson went missing in Iran on March 9, 2007. Mr. Levinson, a retired FBI agent, was last seen on the Kish Island. The United States reiterates its call on the government of Iran to provide any information on Mr. Levinson’s whereabouts and to help ensure his prompt and safe return to his family.

The U.S. State Department announced in 2011 that there were indications that Robert Levinson was being held captive by a group in southwest Asia. The Levinson family released a hostage video they had been sent showing Mr. Levinson in a make-shift cell, appealing for help.

Determining Mr. Levinson’s whereabouts and reuniting him safely with his family continues to be a priority for the United States. The United States also continues to welcome the assistance of its international partners in this investigation.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a one million dollar reward for information leading to his recovery and return to the United States.

Mr. Levinson is 64 years old. He suffers from diabetes and has lost a significant amount of weight since his abduction.
