The United States Rewards for Justice Program is offering up to $15 million for information regarding Iranian businessman Hossein Hatefi Ardakani.
The reward offer is part of a reward offer for information leading to the disruption of the financial mechanisms of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC. The IRGC is the primary branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, and it is designated by the United States and several other countries as a terrorist organization. Since that designation five years ago, the United States has offered a substantial reward for information that leads to the disruption of the IRGC’s financial networks. Hence the reward for information about Hossein Hatefi Ardakani.
With the recovery of wrecked Shahed drones in Ukraine and other conflict areas, it was discovered that many of the flight guidance components were of U.S. origin. The components had been procured by Ardakani’s business network.
Ardakani operates several front companies in Malaysia that act as proxies to acquire sensitive U.S. and foreign-origin materials and technology that are otherwise unobtainable through legitimate procurement channels due to U.S. sanctions and export controls that target Iran and the IRGC.
Ardakani’s United Arab Emirates-based companies circumvent U.S. and foreign sanctions and export controls and transship illegally procured components to the IRGC.
In December of last year, the U.S. Department of Justice charged Ardakani with crimes related to his procurement of U.S.-manufactured dual-use microelectronics for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
