The U.S. government and Levinson family have repeatedly asked Iranian officials for help in locating Mr. Levinson. Iranian officials have responded that Mr. Levinson is not in Iran.

In a statement marking the seventh anniversary of his disappearance, Secretary of State John Kerry noted that Robert Levinson “is one of the longest held American citizens in history.” He said that the father of seven’s disappearance “has been heart-wrenching for his wife and children.”

Mr. Kerry said the United States remains committed to the safe return of Mr. Levinson to his family, and thanked international partners for their support and assistance as the United States continues to work “to end this awful separation.” He noted that Mr. Levinson’s health, age and length of time in captivity were reasons for special urgency.

“We respectfully ask the Government of Iran to work cooperatively with us on the investigation into his disappearance so we can ensure his safe return,” Mr. Kerry said.

The FBI is offering a reward of one million dollars for any information that could lead to the 66 year old U.S. citizen’s location and safe return.

In a separate statement, FBI Director James Comey said, ”We will not waver in our commitment to bringing [Robert Levinson] home safely to his loved ones and his country. We continue to request the assistance of our international partners, as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we continue to ask anyone with information regarding Bob’s disappearance to contact the FBI.”
