The ruling United Socialist Party has retained a majority in the national assembly, but the opposition coalition has made significant gains.

The United States congratulates the millions of Venezuelans who exercised their democratic right to vote. With the polls closed and the future at hand, all Venezuelans can now deepen their dialogue and demonstrate their respect for the diversity of views that is essential in a democracy.
